“I Do” Wedding Decor

Hello May; Hello sunshine and celebrations! Can you believe its already that time of year? Everyone it outside celebrating one thing or another and wedding season is in full swing! Its time to get those decorations out or start crafting! One classic wedding decoration that can be personalized and done in a million ways is the words ” I Do”, so I decided to make my own version. I made these three-dimensional copper and hemp letters that I thought would be cute for a table decor by a guest book and I’m going to share with you how I did it.

Here are the supplies you will need:

  • Crossover 2
  • Letter fab dies
  • Iron
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • Tacky glue
  • Hemp or twine(thin and thick)
  • Card stock
  • Fusible web
  • Cardboard and/or foam
  • Thin copper sheet (shiny paper or card stock will work)

The first thing you want to do is cut out all your letters. I used foam and cardboard for the inside because its what I had laying around. You can use one or the other, or both, whatever you would like. For each letter cut out two copper letters, (or whatever you want the face of the word to be) and then about 6 foam or cardboard letters for the center.  Now build up your center by stacking your letters and adding a layer of glue in between each one. Then glue the outer layer letter so you have a nice sturdy base.

Now for the hemp outside. I wanted it to look very uniform so I did this neat little trick. I first measured the width of  each of my letters and approximately how long around they were. Then I cut pieces of paper and fusible web to these measurements. I took my thinner hemp and cut strings that would cover the paper. I then used my iron to fuse the hemp to the paper in almost perfect rows.

Once I had prepped my hemp, I used the trusted hot glue gun to adhere it to the side of my letter base. Then I added the thicker hemp twine around the front to add a bit more character and cover any gap that was left.

And Voila! That is how I made these cute hemp letters. And of course you can personalize them to say whatever you would like, even “farts”. Yes, you can spell farts in fancy hemp letters. I would love to see that, make it and show me on our Facebook and don’t forget to follow us on Instagram for more projects and announcements!
